A very traditional, detached Spanish country house, built on the ruins of an old cortijo, keeping all the charm and character pertaining to this style of property with wooden doors and windows, beams and thick walls throughout. At the rear of the property is a well located and completely separate self-contained apartment, again converted from the old property, making this an ideal property for rural tourism. The house is walking distance to the traditional village of Bermejo around 40 minutes north of Malaga and close to El Chorro.

A large entrance hall leads into the property from the lovely large porch area, into a charming ground floor area, straight into a spacious, light and cool open plan layout with pillars giving the provision of distinct areas. A lovely snug/television room with a log burner placed on a pedestal gives a cosy place to relax.

The kitchen is a good size with space for a kitchen dining area, and is decorated in traditional quality Andalucian materials, with brick and wood units, marble worktops and a ceramic double drainer sink.  The stove is electric and there is a built-in electric oven.  Also on the ground floor leading through a lovely arched doorway, there are two double bedrooms, and a shower room. Throughout the downstairs of this home there is the style and character of the old cortijo, but lovely modern flourishes such as spotlighting and a well laid terracotta flooring that will stand the test of time.

Wooden stairs lead to the first floor; where there is a further two good-sized double bedrooms, both with built-in wardrobes, and with one bedroom having the advantage of a sun terrace from which to view the surrounding El Chorro Mountains.  Also a family bathroom with a bath and shower serve these upstairs bedrooms.  

Outside the gardens are fenced and are laid out in such a way as to minimize maintenance.  There are numerous fruit trees including carob, mandarin, olives, lemon, fig, nispero, and various palms and flowering plants.  The seating areas are laid out to make the most of the sun or the shade.   A lovely swimming pool takes centre stage.  There are two very useful storage sheds, one currently used as a tool shed, but which has plumbing for laundry, and the other is currently used as a wood store for wood for the log burner.

At the rear of the property is a well located and completely separate self-contained apartment, again converted from the old property using traditional quality materials and have a living area, shower room, kitchen and one double bedroom. The current owners have converted a part of the property into a gym area, but this could easily be converted back to provide an extra bedroom or garden room.

The house is walking distance to the village of Bermejo. A very Spanish village, and extremely welcoming and friendly with a great community feeling with a good primary school and nearby there are very good secondary schools. The village has bars, a supermarket, a chemist, tobacconist, and a bread delivery van makes a daily visit to the homes surrounding the village. Also straight from the house, there are lovely long walks along the river, through orange groves at the foot of the mountains, and refreshments provided by small bars and restaurants along the way!

The area of Bermejo is very close to the beautiful Natural Park and lakes of El Chorro, ideal for walkers, climbers, water sports and appreciating the amazing wild life. The stunning scenery attracts holidaymakers from around the world, and this property would be an ideal investment for the holiday rentals or bed and breakfast.  Malaga is 40 minutes’ drive from Bermejo. Nearby is the train stop for the train that takes you to various locations including Malaga, Antequera, Ronda, and even Seville.
