|  |  ZZZ IN THE SUN but not until you have visited the quaint village of ZUHEROS in the Sierra de Cabra in the Province of Cordoba. ZUHEROS is at an altitude of 622m above sea level and lies on a limestone promontory, white, silent, secluded and huddled around the Castle.
In the middle of an impressive gorge formed over centuries by the river Bailon, stop at the viewpoint La Atalaya to enjoy the sight of the impressive gorge and the colossal landscape.
With the name SUHAYRA the Arabs left a castle built out, and on the rock, defending the frontiers against the Kingdom of GRANADA. The castle walls of the fortified enclosure have been preserved, together with a battlemented tower, and the remains of a palace with Renaissance style masonry.
It was ordered to be built in the 16th century by the fifth "SENOR DE ZUHEROS", Juan de Cordoba, and nearby the castle is the Church of Virgen de los Remidos dating from the 16th century and later restored. |

 The presence of man goes back to Prehistoric times and THE CAVESAS DE LOS MURCHIELAGOS testify to this with remains and wall paintings, these discoveries, together with pieces of pottery, take us to the Neolithic age.
The greatest pleasure is in walking along the streets discovering the character of this QUAINT VILLAGE with the houses lined up in an irregular way creating curved and numerous streets with white walls being absorbed into the rock on which they are built.
Smell the flowers mixing their scent with the mountain air, the blue sky contrasting with the white walls, and without even realising it the village will have enchanted you and you have lost all sense of time! |
