|  |  UBEDA is situated in the area known as La Loma just 8 kms from BAEZA in a wide expanse of olive groves in the high valley of the Guadalquivir. Located at the entrance of the town is the Hospital de Santiago with a luminous cloister and high chapel. |
 The outstanding feature of UBEDA is the monumental square, the Plaza de Vazquez de Molina, in OLD TOWN surrounded by imposing buildings such as the Palacio de las Cadenas and the Chapel of El Salvador, dating from the 16th century.
UBEDA, along with the city of BAEZA has the largest legacy of Renaissance works in ANDALUCIA. The Plaza de Santa Maria is considered one of the most outstanding historic artistic ensembles in the region.
The 16th century poet Saint John of the Cross died in a monastery in UBEDA. |
